I have been painting again and have 3 new paintings to share.
I took this woods photo a few years ago and my brother sent me this image of the Speed River moving through Guelph Ontario.
I did these paintings in response.
The last painting is done with a palette knife and I am not sure it or the 2nd painting are finished yet.

Nice work Jacqueline, I always like paintings which document the land. Are they
oils?

Hi – I bet you hit your forehead after you hit the ‘send’ button. You are right to ask as I use acrylics a lot and sometimes they look very similar. These 3 paintings are done in oils – water-soluble oils.

I like them very much and I prefer the second one. You use water-soluble oil, except the smell, is it very different of the oil?

The water-soluble oils work like the regular oils and can be mixed together, They might dry a bit quicker. Some brands follow the texture and dryness of classic oils but other companies prefer a constant – so they all blend easily [e.g. Cobra and Duo]. In reality they smell about the same as regular oils. You can thin them with water but water makes the paint temporarily cloudy. I use a damp brush but use water-soluble mediums to thin the paint. Clean-up is easy – using soap and water – no solvents. I know oil painters can use soap as well.
Thanks for the input.
